The Range Review: Homeware, Furniture Delivery and Returns

The site covers decorating, furniture, lighting, garden, crafts, kitchenware, storage and seasonal products. It also lists goods supplied by marketplace partners. Two £99.99 cabinets can therefore differ in who contracts with the buyer, where stock sits, which postcodes are served and whether a store can accept the return.

We reviewed official product, delivery, FAQ and return pages. We did not order, assemble, sit on or durability-test any sampled item. Product-page materials and marketing descriptions are treated as claims to verify, not evidence of long-term performance.

The Range versus The Range Marketplace

Look for “sold by The Range” or the marketplace-partner name near the buying controls. On a partner item, the contract of sale is with that partner, goods may ship separately and store return is unavailable. Partner delivery is charged separately from The Range stock. A familiar website does not make fulfilment identical.

Capture the seller name, product code, price, delivery promise and displayed return panel before ordering. Some product pages contain inconsistent legacy fields, so use the current seller statement and checkout rather than a stray “Marketplace: No” specification. How to judge value in low-cost furniture

Dimensions, material and construction matter more than a styled room image. Particle board, MDF, laminated board, plywood, pine and metal can all be appropriate when engineered and used correctly, but they differ in edge durability, repairability, weight and moisture tolerance. “Wood effect” is not solid timber, and a “wax finish” does not establish the thickness or grade beneath it.

Check panel thickness, back construction, drawer runners, hinges, maximum loads and wall-fixing requirements where supplied. Product pages do not always expose all those details. For seating, dimensions do not establish comfort. Record seat height, depth, width, back angle and upholstery composition. Compare them with a chair that suits the intended user. An online accent chair with an awkward return method deserves more caution than a small table.

Measure the product, route and room

Tape the furniture footprint on the floor and test doors, drawers and walking space. Then measure the packaged route: front door, hallway, stair turns, lift and final room. A 130cm television unit may fit the wall but not the turn. Include skirting boards, sockets and radiator clearances.

The Panama chest example explicitly describes ground-floor doorstep delivery. That means the buyer may need another adult and a plan to carry boxes safely. Do not assume room-of-choice service, assembly or packaging removal unless the basket says so. Use our measuring guide before placing large orders.

Delivery charges: one site, several cost streams

The Range’s current delivery page says its own-stock orders pay a single delivery cost based on the largest or heaviest item. Saver delivery starts at £4.99; medium and large saver services start at £9.95; large express starts at £24.99; and eligible large next-day delivery is £29.99. Exact cost changes by item, postcode and location.

Items marked eligible can receive free delivery when the eligible portion exceeds £59. Ineligible items do not count towards the threshold. Marketplace-partner delivery is charged separately, so adding several partner products can create several fees. Remote areas and excluded regions have different options.

The “delivered total” is therefore the correct comparison. A £49.99 table with a separate partner charge can lose to a £55 item with collection. Test the real postcode basket and retain the promise. Compare the Wayfair UK profile using the same method.

Click & Collect and store stock

Selected products offer free collection, but marketplace and large-item availability varies. A collection badge does not guarantee that a chosen variant is in a nearby shop. Wait for confirmation before travelling and inspect packaging at handover.

Store viewing is most valuable for colour, texture and scale, but floor samples may not match online stock or finish. Record the online product code. If the item will be returned by car, check whether the packaged box still fits after assembly is ruled out.

Returns: notify within 14 days

The current FAQ says online buyers, including marketplace and click-and-collect customers, must notify a return within 14 days of receipt and then have a further 14 days to complete the return or arrange collection. Items must remain unused. A change-of-mind fee can apply.

Most smaller items sold and dispatched by The Range can be returned free to a store with the delivery note. Larger furniture and appliances cannot generally be returned in store. Marketplace products cannot go to The Range stores at all; they require an authorised postal or collection route. Product pages can state whether label, collection or neither is available.

Keep original packaging, fittings and instructions. Photograph damage before assembly and contact customer care with evidence. Faulty or transit-damaged goods have a different route from an unwanted item, and a change-of-mind collection fee should not be assumed for a valid fault. Made-to-order and personalised furniture

A made-to-order badge is a warning to pause. Bespoke or personalised goods can be excluded from ordinary cancellation rights unless faulty or misdescribed. Confirm exactly when production starts, which choices make the item bespoke, the estimated lead time and what happens if access is impossible.

Save colour, finish, orientation and measurements from the order. Do not rely on a room photograph for tone. If a standard item is merely labelled made to order, ask customer care for the applicable cancellation wording before paying.

Clearpay and other payment options

The Range offers Clearpay on eligible baskets between £0.04 and £1,500, splitting payment into four fortnightly instalments. It is credit. Late fees can apply, missed payments may affect future limits and data may be reported to credit-reference agencies under the current explanation.

Continue making scheduled payments until a return has been accepted and Clearpay adjusts the plan. Compare cash price and delivery first; instalments do not improve furniture quality. Our total-cost guide includes assembly tools, wall fixing and disposal that the monthly figure omits.

Our verdict

The Range is a useful UK homeware destination when the buyer distinguishes own stock from marketplace breadth. Affordable furniture and store access can be strong, but seller-specific delivery and returns mean a bargain is never just the price card. Measure carefully and choose the logistics before checkout.
