H&M Home Review: Décor, Textiles, Delivery and Returns

The range now extends well beyond small accessories. It includes interior textiles, bedding, dining, bathroom items, furniture, lighting, children’s homeware and products supplied by external brands. This breadth means two objects bought through the same website can arrive separately and have different delivery or return routes.

We reviewed official H&M UK category, delivery, returns and terms pages. We have not handled, washed or durability-tested the sampled products. Descriptions of materials and sizes should be confirmed on each live product page and care label.

What H&M Home does well

The clearest strength is a broad visual range at accessible starting prices. A £6.99 cover or £12.99 vase can change a room without committing to furniture. Filters by product type, colour and size can help turn inspiration into a small shortlist. H&M stores also create a potentially convenient collection and return network for eligible own-brand items.

The weakness is the same speed. Newness, styled photography and many colour variants can encourage a collection of unrelated accents. Start with the room rather than the category page: identify one missing function or colour relationship, set dimensions, and decide what existing object will leave. Cushion covers: the insert and fibre mix decide value

A cover measurement is usually the flat cover size, not a promise about the finished cushion. A fuller look may use a slightly larger feather or synthetic insert, but the correct choice depends on seam strength, fill and personal preference. Check whether the opening is zip, envelope or buttons and whether it will tolerate frequent removal.

Chenille can add texture but may catch on claws or rough clothing. Linen blends can feel crisp and relaxed, yet the actual percentage and companion fibre affect creasing and care. Cotton canvas can be robust, although printed surfaces may fade differently from woven colour. Read the exact composition and washing temperature rather than inferring quality from “Premium Selection”.

Build a small palette under the room’s daytime and evening light. Mobile-screen colour is not a reliable match for paint or an existing sofa. Order one uncertain shade first when delivery economics permit, or inspect available homeware in store. Vases, candles and decorative objects

Check height, opening, base diameter and weight. A tall vase with a narrow base may be unsuitable on a busy dining table; a small vase can disappear on deep shelving. Determine whether a vessel is watertight or decorative only, and use a protective pad where a metal or rough ceramic base could mark furniture.

For candles and diffusers, compare burn or liquid volume, safety instructions and the room where they will be used. Fragrance descriptions are subjective and online buying removes the chance to smell first. Keep flames away from textiles, children and pets, and do not let styling override the manufacturer’s clearance instructions.

Bedding and interior textiles

UK bedding names are not enough: check the centimetre dimensions of the duvet cover, fitted-sheet depth and pillowcase. A fitted sheet that technically matches mattress width can still fail on a deep mattress or topper. For curtains, record the number of panels, heading style, individual panel dimensions, opacity and whether lining is included.

Fibre composition affects feel and care but is not a simple quality ranking. Cotton percale is generally crisp; washed linen can soften with use; polyester blends may dry quickly and crease less. Compare thread and fabric information only where H&M supplies it, and avoid invented thread-count conclusions. Wash according to the label before assessing long-term fit.

Delivery: own-brand, member and external-brand rules differ

H&M’s UK delivery page says members receive free standard delivery when spending £40 or more, while delivery to an H&M store is free with no minimum spend. Larger parcels over 70 × 50 × 60cm cannot use next-day delivery, click and collect, lockers or pickup points. Enter the full basket and postcode because available methods can change with the largest item.

External-brand products are exceptions. Official terms say their standard home or pickup delivery is generally two to four business days, while larger rugs and furniture from the external H&M Home range may take five to 14 business days. They may arrive separately and use different tracking. A basket containing H&M cushions and third-party furniture should not be treated as one parcel or one service promise.

Do not add a filler item merely to cross a free-delivery threshold. Compare the cost of the item with the delivery saved and consider free eligible store collection. If furniture is involved, confirm room access and whether the service is threshold delivery or room of choice; do not assume assembly or packaging removal.

H&M Home returns: the exceptions matter

For ordinary full-price goods, H&M says customers have 30 days after receipt to register a return. Sale items and designer collections have a 14-day window. A postal or courier return normally attracts a £2.99 fee per brand, deducted from the refund. Eligible H&M goods returned to a store are free, but online furniture and lighting must go back to the online warehouse.

External brands cannot be returned to H&M stores and may require the instructions supplied in their parcel. Large returns above stated parcel dimensions or 15kg use courier collection. Furniture and lighting should be retained in original packaging. These rules make unpacking discipline important: inspect the model, colour and damage before flattening the box or assembling anything.

H&M says the initial delivery charge is refunded when the whole qualifying order is returned, while a bulky fee is not refundable and partial returns do not recover shipping. A faulty, damaged or incorrect item follows a different route from a change of mind. Photograph it and contact support rather than paying an ordinary return fee. Sale prices and H&M membership

The sale page checked during research showed reductions such as an outdoor cushion cover from £9.99 to £3 and a linen-blend cushion cover from £14.99 to £8. These are volatile examples, not evergreen recommendations. A 70% reduction does not fix an unsuitable size, fabric or colour, and sale items have the shorter 14-day return window.

Membership can provide free standard delivery above £40 and member prices on selected items. Calculate value using the intended basket only. Do not assign cash value to future rewards that may expire or encourage another purchase. Our verdict

H&M Home is at its best as a source of measured, affordable finishing pieces rather than a shortcut to a complete room. Its textile and décor range offers genuine choice, while member delivery and eligible store returns can make a small project convenient. Furniture, lighting, sale items and external brands demand more careful logistics.
