& Other Stories review UK: sizing, materials, delivery and returns

& Other Stories combines trend-led shapes with tailoring, knitwear and accessories at prices above much of the high street. The range can reward a precise shortlist, but fabric, fit and construction still need checking product by product.

QUICK VERDICT

Worth shortlisting for distinctive wardrobe pieces, not buying on aesthetic alone

Start with & Other Stories when a particular cut, colour or fabric fills a real wardrobe gap and the product page supplies enough evidence. The UK trouser listings checked for this review included cropped kick flares at £67 and paperbag wool trousers at £169. At those prices, inspect composition, lining, seams and care rather than assuming the brand position guarantees quality.

The most useful question is not whether the whole retailer is “good quality”, but whether one exact garment earns its delivered cost and care burden. For a direct competitor decision, read our & Other Stories versus COS comparison.

What the UK range is good for

The retailer is strongest as a broad women’s fashion edit: dresses, tailoring, knitwear, denim, shoes, bags and jewellery sit together, with colours and silhouettes intended to coordinate. That makes it practical for building an outfit around one statement piece. It can also encourage unnecessary add-ons, so name the missing wardrobe job before opening category filters.

Use the range for a defined brief such as a press-crease trouser, wool-blend layer or occasion dress. Do not treat “atelier”, “premium” or editorial photography as construction evidence. Our UK capsule-wardrobe guide helps test how many existing outfits a new piece will actually complete.

Dated UK price sample

UK listing sampled Displayed price Before choosing a size
Cropped kick-flare trousers £67 Compare rise and cropped length with the shoes you intend to wear
Loose-fit tailored trousers £77 Ask whether waistband stability and seated room support everyday use
Wool-blend tailored trousers £119 Read the selected variant’s fibre percentages and cleaning requirements
Paperbag wool trousers £169 Check waist volume, belt attachment and how the top tucks in
Sculptural pleated trousers £97 Look for enough detail to judge pleat position and leg balance

The category prices above were checked on 5 October 2026 and describe selected listings, not the full range or confirmed stock in your size. Colour variants may change the material specification and sale position, so open the exact article before adding it to a basket. Use our genuine-discount guide whenever a reference price appears.

Sizing: translate EU and UK labels into measurements

A product page may present EU and UK conversions, model information, garment length or a fit description. None creates a universal brand fit. A relaxed shirt, fitted woven dress and stretch trouser use different ease. Measure the body in the intended underwear and layers, then compare with a similar owned garment.

For trousers, record waist position, front and back rise, hip, upper thigh and inside leg. For dresses, add shoulder, bust, bodice length and total length. Distinguish body measurements from finished-garment dimensions. Our UK clothing sizing guide explains the difference.

If two sizes remain plausible, use the return route as a risk control rather than ordering an uncontrolled spread. Keep tags attached and test movement indoors without fragrance, make-up transfer or shoe wear.

Materials: open the full composition

Category names such as satin, wool, leather and linen can describe appearance or a main component, not the whole build. Check shell, lining, pocketing, coating, filling and trims. A wool-blend trouser at £119 can behave very differently depending on the wool percentage, cloth density, lining and care label.

Read the selected colour because compositions can vary. “Recycled” identifies feedstock, not softness, pilling, recovery or repairability. The fabric-composition guide shows how to translate percentages into practical questions without claiming that one fibre is universally superior.

Inspect construction before removing tags

Delivery-day garment check

  • Compare the article, colour, size and composition with the order record.
  • Use neutral daylight to check shade, opacity and panel consistency.
  • Inspect buttonholes, zip ends, pocket corners, belt loops and hem.
  • Check pattern alignment only where the design and cut make alignment reasonable.
  • Move, sit and reach without stretching or soiling the garment.
  • Photograph any genuine fault before washing, altering or wearing outside.

A loose thread can be cosmetic or the end of an unsecured seam; inspect rather than pulling it. A tailored price does not guarantee tailoring features, and a full lining is not automatically better if it twists, traps heat or is poorly joined. Use our clothing-quality guide for a construction-first method.

Delivery: current UK position

At the 5 October check, standard delivery was estimated at four to five working days after order confirmation: £7 to a home address or £5 to a pickup point or locker, with standard shipping free over £70. Express home delivery cost £10, with a one-to-two-working-day estimate for orders before 18:30 Monday to Friday; weekends and public holidays were excluded.

Selected stores also offer free collection when checkout makes it available. Save the method and promised arrival for your address, then allow time to inspect the outfit rather than relying on the shortest advertised estimate.

Returns: match the purchase to an eligible route

The checked policy allowed 28 days from delivery for full-price items and 14 for sale, discounted and Last Chance items; limited-time promotions retained the standard window. Postal returns require portal registration and carry a £3 deduction per order. Eligible online purchases can go to UK stores, but online sale or discounted goods cannot; store-collected online orders must return in store.

Keep items clean, unworn, unwashed and tagged, with shoes in their boxes. Allow up to 14 days from sending for processing. Our clothing returns guide explains the evidence to retain and why a fault should be handled separately from an ordinary change of mind.

Choose a design-led or lower-risk purchase

CHOOSE A DISTINCTIVE PIECE IF…

The design solves a named gap

Measurements, composition, construction and care are clear, and the garment works with several owned outfits.

CHOOSE A LOWER-RISK BASIC IF…

Repeatability matters more than novelty

You need predictable replacement, easier care or a simpler fit and another retailer documents that evidence better.

Promotions and complete cost

Newsletter offers and sales can change. Read exclusions, expiry, minimum spend and whether codes combine. A discount cannot rescue the wrong fit or an impractical dry-clean-only garment. Compare the amount actually paid, delivery, likely return cost, alterations and care.

For a frequently worn piece, estimate realistic uses and maintenance with our cost-per-wear guide. Do not invent a long life from price; update the estimate after real wear.

Product-page evidence before ordering

Use the styled images to understand intent, then switch to evidence. Record the model context, garment length, fit description, composition, care and any close view of the closure, hem and seams. Colour names are not standard and screen rendering varies, so an exact tonal match is a higher-risk online decision than choosing a general colour family.

For dresses, check lining, transparency, bra coverage, pocket construction, zip position and sitting length. For tailoring, check shoulder structure, vents, button placement and whether trousers are lined. A decorative surface can be the reason to buy, but embroidery, sequins, loose weave or special trims also change snagging and cleaning risk.

Accessories need their own quality decision

A coordinated bag, belt or jewellery piece should not inherit the justification of the clothing in the basket. Read the complete material description, dimensions, weight, fastening and care. Plated jewellery and mixed-material bags require different expectations from solid precious metal or a fully specified leather construction.

When one accessory completes several existing outfits, that can be a useful purchase. When it only completes one new dress, calculate the combined wardrobe cost rather than treating it as a small add-on. Save the product details because seasonal accessories can disappear before a fault or replacement question arises.

Alterations and care can change value

Simple trouser length, a plain waist adjustment or a replaceable button may be feasible after purchase. Shoulder shape, armhole position, complex pleats and heavily decorated seams are more difficult. Obtain an alteration view before removing tags when fit depends on substantial work, and remember that alteration normally ends the return route.

Compare cleaning, drying space, pressing and storage with the intended frequency of wear. A beautiful occasion garment can justify specialist care; an everyday blouse that requires a routine the household will not follow is unlikely to age well. Cost per wear should be updated after real use rather than forecast from brand reputation.

Balanced verdict

& Other Stories is a useful UK shortlist for expressive dresses, tailoring and knitwear when the exact garment evidence supports the price. The breadth and coordinated styling are strengths; variable fibres, cuts and care mean the brand name cannot replace inspection. An eligible store return can be convenient, but discounted online purchases require a different route; account for the stated postal deduction.

Frequently asked questions

How should I size an & Other Stories fitted dress?

Compare bust, shoulder and bodice length as well as the labelled size; a matching waist figure does not establish that the zip will close comfortably when seated.

Does the & Other Stories sale change the return deadline?

The October policy shortened sale and discounted returns to 14 days, so record that deadline before ordering an uncertain fit.

What should I examine on & Other Stories pleated trousers?

Check whether the folds hang evenly from the waist and remain balanced when you sit, then read the care instructions before assuming you can press them at home.

Can coordinated & Other Stories accessories justify a larger basket?

A matching colour is useful only when the accessory also suits clothes you already own; evaluate its fastening, material and maintenance separately from the garment.

How much must I spend for & Other Stories standard shipping to be free?

The threshold was above £70 at our check, but adding an unwanted piece to reach it is not a saving.

Methodology and limitations

For this & Other Stories profile we checked the UK trouser category and the live delivery and return pages on 5 October 2026. The inspection advice is a research-led way to assess a purchase, not a claim that we wore, washed or laboratory-tested these listed garments.

Limitations

Listed prices do not establish stock in a chosen size or the composition of every colour variant. Before paying, resolve missing measurements with the retailer and retain the checkout terms relevant to that order.
