THE SHORT ANSWER

Choose the exact compatible part at the lower risk-adjusted delivered price.

Scan is often the better fit when specification detail, warranty visibility or specialist support matters. Ebuyer can win when the identical manufacturer part number is cheaper after delivery or its range surfaces an unusual component. Neither retailer can solve an incorrect socket, insufficient power supply or case-clearance mistake after checkout.

PC-component comparisons are unusually unforgiving. Two cards with the same GPU can differ in length, thickness, power connector, cooler and warranty. RAM family names hide timings and module layouts. An SSD can physically fit while sharing lanes or running below its advertised speed. Start with manufacturer part numbers.

Publication-day snapshot: official UK product pages rechecked on 18 August 2026. Scan was £36 lower before delivery for the same manufacturer code. Ebuyer’s page exposed conflicting availability messages, so its stock cannot be treated as confirmed. Checkout controls delivery and the orderable total at both retailers.

This is a valid comparison only because the manufacturer code matches. Another RTX 5060 is not automatically equivalent. Low-profile, triple-fan, white, factory-overclocked and 16GB Ti variants serve different constraints. A £15 premium is sensible for the only card that fits; wasteful when the case has ample space and performance difference is immaterial.

Which retailer has the better component range?

Scan’s catalogue is structured around builders. Graphics cards expose GPU, memory, clock, dimensions and warranty; CPUs, motherboards, memory, cases and cooling sit beside professional workstations. This reduces research friction when a buyer already knows the platform.

Ebuyer’s components section covers graphics, processors, cases, RAM, storage, cooling and power supplies. The current page showed more than 200 products and several prices available through Frasers Plus. It can be useful for comparing across broad categories, but a member or finance price must not be mixed with an ordinary cash comparison.

Range breadth has negative value when it creates incompatible alternatives. Create a specification gate first, then sort only eligible parts by delivered price. Our shortlisting method helps prevent a sale badge from changing the platform halfway through research.

Compatibility checks before choosing either retailer

Graphics cards

Check card length, height, slot thickness, power connector, recommended supply, cable bend radius and case airflow. Measure against installed front fans or radiators, not an empty-case maximum. Confirm display outputs and whether the processor has sufficient performance for the intended workload.

Processors and motherboards

Match socket and chipset, then verify BIOS support for the exact CPU revision. Confirm memory generation, power-delivery capability and physical form factor. A motherboard may support a processor only after an update that requires an older CPU or flashback feature.

RAM and storage

Match DDR generation, module type, capacity, speed support and populated slots. For M.2 drives, confirm length, interface, available lanes, heatsink clearance and whether another port is disabled. High advertised sequential speed does not guarantee a noticeable improvement in every workload.

Use the full code, not search-result shorthand. Keep anti-static bags, socket covers and serial labels until the system passes initial checks. A compatibility mistake is not automatically a product fault.

Delivery costs and urgency

Scan publishes timed and weight-dependent delivery services, but the real charge depends on parcel dimensions, address, availability and basket. Its checked graphics-card page did not establish a universal delivered total. Record the checkout price rather than carrying a delivery example from another basket into the comparison.

Ebuyer’s current help lists standard three-to-seven-day delivery at £4.99, 48-hour express at £7.99, next-day Evri at £9.99 and next-day DPD at £11.99. Options depend on product and region, holidays are excluded, and submitted orders generally cannot have address or service changed.

For a low-cost cable or fan, postage may reverse the winner. For a failed work machine, a reliable next-day option can be worth more than a £5 saving. Do not split orders unnecessarily, but do not buy filler merely to dilute delivery.

Returns, faults and warranty evidence

Scan gives consumers 14 calendar days to notify a change of mind and expects goods in the condition sold. The ASUS example listed 36 months return-to-base and a 28-day DOA period. That exact warranty is product-specific. Record it before purchase.

Ebuyer says unwanted online purchases must be returned within 28 days in resalable original packaging, with customer-paid return from £4.99. Online orders cannot be returned in store, including click-and-collect purchases. Refund processing may take up to 14 days after receipt.

Faulty goods are different. Document symptoms, platform, BIOS, cabling and troubleshooting without damaging the item. A no-boot condition can result from memory training or another component. Precise evidence helps support while preserving rights described in our UK returns guide.

Technical support: how much should it influence price?

Scan’s specialist identity and detailed listings can justify a modest premium for complex builds, particularly when several compatible items are bought together. Ask a specific question with case, motherboard, power supply and part numbers. Advice is useful evidence, not a guarantee of performance.

Ebuyer remains viable for informed buyers who can validate the SKU independently. The current footer identifies EBYR (Investco) Limited trading as Ebuyer; purchases made before 11 August 2025 have a separate administration route. For a new order, retain the current seller, fulfiller, product page and confirmation.

Pre-sales support matters most when it prevents an incompatible purchase. It matters less when the exact manufacturer code is already validated and the price difference is substantial. For a full supported system, compare a pre-built PC with components rather than assuming self-build is cheaper after operating system, assembly time and fault isolation.

For multi-part orders, also ask how split shipments affect the build. A motherboard arriving days before memory or power supply cannot be meaningfully tested, which can compress the practical inspection window. Save every dispatch notice and inspect each parcel independently.

Final verdict

Direct buying checklist

  • Copy the exact component model and revision.
  • Check stock status, delivery method and cutoff together.
  • Compare return carriage and technical-support scope.
  • Confirm manufacturer warranty and retailer responsibility.
CHOOSE SCAN IF…

Specialist detail and support reduce risk

The exact part is competitive, warranty is clear and detailed compatibility information or Bolton collection matters.

CHOOSE EBUYER IF…

The exact delivered SKU wins

You have independently confirmed compatibility and its cash price remains lower after delivery and return cost.

Our verdict

Scan is the stronger default specialist for components, while Ebuyer remains a legitimate price-and-range comparison. In the exact ASUS RTX 5060 publication-day snapshot, Scan was £36 cheaper before delivery and presented a clearer in-stock signal. That does not predict tomorrow’s result or another component. Recheck part number, warranty, seller, availability and basket each time.

Frequently asked questions

Is Scan cheaper than Ebuyer?

For the exact ASUS RTX 5060 checked, yes after displayed delivery. Prices change and another SKU may reverse the result.

Which has better returns?

Ebuyer offers a longer published unwanted-return window but charges from £4.99. Scan’s notification window is 14 days. Condition and fault rights remain important.

Does Scan price match?

Scan discusses competitive pricing but does not present an unconditional formal match. Contact it with exact part number, competitor stock and delivered price.

Can I return an opened graphics card?

Do not assume unrestricted change-of-mind acceptance after installation or marked hardware. Verify the code before opening and preserve all packaging.

Which retailer is better for business orders?

Both have business capabilities. Obtain a written quotation, VAT treatment, allocation, delivery schedule, warranty and business return terms.

How we compared Scan and Ebuyer

We rechecked official product pages, delivery, returns, warranty and current seller information on 18 August 2026. The exact price comparison uses manufacturer code DUAL-RTX5060-O8G. We did not buy, install or benchmark hardware or test support.

Limitations

The single featured image is an original Recommended Today asset showing generic compatibility checks with no retailer imagery. Links are editorial and non-affiliate. Ebuyer’s page exposed conflicting availability labels during the check, and neither retailer’s delivered total can be fixed without a real address and basket.
