John Lewis Electricals Review: Guarantees, Installation and Delivery Explained
John Lewis can be worth a modest premium when a guarantee, installation or recycling service removes genuine risk. It is not automatically better value: compare the exact model and complete delivered price.

Buy the service only when it solves a real problem.
John Lewis is strongest for TVs and major appliances when its exact price is competitive and you will use the included guarantee, delivery, installation or recycling route. Compare the model code and complete basket—not merely the brand, screen size or monthly payment.
The electricals range stretches from headphones and laptops to televisions, washing machines and large kitchen appliances. Those categories do not share one simple buying rule. A pair of headphones can be compared by exact model and delivered price; a washing machine purchase may depend on access, plumbing, disconnection, installation and removal of the old appliance.
This review uses official John Lewis UK listings and service pages. We have not bought, installed or tested any product and have not used the retailer’s after-sales service. Product performance claims remain manufacturer specifications unless supported by independent testing.
John Lewis electricals price snapshot
| Exact example checked | Displayed price | What changes the real value |
|---|---|---|
| Bosch Series 6 WGG24400GB / WGG244ZCGB washing machine 9kg, 1400rpm, freestanding | £499–£599 depending on variant | The listing advertised free standard delivery and recycling worth £44.95. Confirm the selected code, colour, postcode and promotion at checkout. |
| John Lewis JLWM5845 washing machine 8kg, 1400rpm, freestanding | £469 | The listing showed a three-year guarantee, £19.95 standard delivery and a temporary free-delivery offer. Compare cabinet depth, programme needs and the final basket, not just the own-brand price. |
| John Lewis JLDWW930 slimline dishwasher Freestanding, 45cm class | £479 | The listing showed £19.95 standard delivery and £29.95 next-day delivery where eligible. Measure depth as well as width and confirm hose, waste and door-clearance requirements. |
| Samsung QE55S90H television 2026, 55-inch OLED | £1,599; out of stock online when checked | The listing showed interest-free payments over 18 months, but no online stock. Availability, room brightness, reflections, ports and motion matter more than a headline saving. |
Price snapshot: checked on John Lewis UK on 15 August 2026. The Bosch white and graphite variants were £499 and £599; the displayed large-appliance standard-delivery fee was £19.95, while temporary offers differed by item. Prices, variants, stock, codes and service promotions change, so recheck the exact product and postcode basket before paying.
Model codes prevent expensive false matches
Retailers often group several colours or near-identical models under one title. The Bosch example spans two codes and a price range; a comparison that records only “Bosch Series 6” is therefore unreliable. Copy the complete code, capacity, colour and included accessories into the shortlist. For televisions, match the year suffix, screen size and regional model—not only the family name.
Specifications should follow the intended use. A family washing machine may need 9kg or 10kg capacity, but usable programmes, cabinet depth, spin noise and energy consumption can matter more than one extra kilogram. A television for daytime sport needs different strengths from one used for films in a dim room. Our guide to building a focused shortlist helps separate non-negotiables from attractive extras.
Guarantees: valuable only when the scope is understood
The checked Bosch washing-machine listing displayed a two-year guarantee, while the John Lewis JLWM5845 listing displayed three years. Selected televisions can include longer cover, but the exact term must be confirmed on the individual product page. That can add meaningful value against an identical product sold with shorter standard cover. It does not mean every electrical item receives the same term, or that accidental damage, cosmetic wear and consumable deterioration are included.
Record whether the cover is a John Lewis guarantee, manufacturer warranty or redemption-based extension. A redemption may require registration by a deadline; an included retailer guarantee follows its own document and claim route. Neither replaces statutory rights if an item is faulty, misdescribed or not fit for purpose. Our warranty versus guarantee guide explains the distinction.
Before paying for Protect+ or another optional plan, compare covered events, excess, exclusions, repair limits, replacement basis and cancellation. Avoid paying twice for overlapping cover. For a fault, keep the receipt, model and serial numbers, description and photographs; do not dispose of an appliance before the retailer confirms the next step.
Washing-machine installation and recycling
John Lewis currently lists installation at £30 for a freestanding washing machine, washer dryer or dishwasher and £115 for an integrated equivalent. Recycling is listed at £25 per appliance. The checked service page also lists £15 installation for a freestanding tumble dryer. Promotions can reduce or remove these fees for selected products, as shown in the price snapshot.
The promotion does not remove the need to prepare the site. John Lewis says the electrical supply should be available and within one metre of the intended location. Water and waste connections must be suitable, access must be clear and the appliance must fit through the route. Integrated work is more expensive because door, plinth and cabinet alignment add labour and risk.
Download the retailer’s installation checklist before ordering. Measure width, height and depth at the narrowest points, including hoses and door opening. Photograph the existing connections. If the current setup is unsafe or non-standard, arrange competent remedial work first; a delivery team cannot improvise plumbing or electrical alterations on the day.
If only recycling is booked, John Lewis says the old appliance must be disconnected. Confirm whether packaging is removed and whether delivery, installation and recycling occur in one visit. Supplier-direct items may need a separate phone booking after purchase, so “installation available” on a service page is not proof for every listing.
TV installation: choose the exact scope
John Lewis offers TV setup, wall-mounting and recycling options for eligible products and areas. The useful question is not simply whether installation exists, but what the selected service includes. Setup may cover tuning and connection; wall mounting adds bracket, wall construction, cable route and height decisions. Concealed cabling, masonry work or moving sockets may require a different trade.
Check wall suitability and locate pipes or cables before drilling. Confirm whether a bracket is included or separately purchased, whether it supports the TV’s VESA pattern and weight, and whether the installer connects existing sources. If the TV comes directly from a supplier, the service page instructs buyers to call after purchase to check installation.
A five-year TV guarantee is useful, but it should not pull a buyer into the wrong display technology. Compare reflections, brightness, viewing angle, motion, gaming inputs, tuner and accessibility. The larger ownership cost includes a wall mount, soundbar, streaming subscriptions and electricity; use our total-cost framework before upgrading screen size.
Delivery, collection and postcode limits
Small electricals may qualify for standard, next-day or Click & Collect services. Large appliances use dedicated delivery routes and time windows. Stock labelled supplier-direct can follow different timescales. The only reliable evidence is the final basket for the exact model and delivery postcode.
Remote rural, Highland and island postcodes can face restrictions. Installation may not be available with next-day delivery, and collection is not a practical route for every large product. Save the order confirmation and ensure someone can provide access. Measure stairs, turns and doorways; the appliance dimensions alone do not prove it can reach the room.
Returns and damaged deliveries
For an unwanted return, keep the product unused and complete, with packaging and accessories, until the model and condition are accepted. John Lewis currently gives 30 days for an unwanted return and says registered technology or products containing personal data are not accepted under that policy. Large products require collection rather than a shop visit; the published unwanted large-item collection fee was £29.95, while damaged or faulty collections were free.
Inspect cartons before the team leaves where practical. Photograph crushed corners, dents and the model label. If damage or a wrong item is discovered, report it promptly through the appropriate route rather than installing or using it. Faulty or misdescribed goods are separate from a change of mind; see our UK returns guide.
Finance and promotional bundles
John Lewis displays interest-free and interest-bearing payment plans on selected electricals. Its current representative 24.9% APR example shows a £1,000 product costing £1,382.76 across three years. That £382.76 is part of the product decision even when the monthly payment looks manageable.
Cashback via redemption, a discounted soundbar and free installation have conditions. Record eligible codes, purchase dates, claim deadline and required evidence. A soundbar bundle saves money only when that exact soundbar was already suitable. Our guide to genuine discounts helps test the reference price and conditions.

Our verdict
John Lewis Electricals is most persuasive when the product and the service form one sensible purchase. Included multi-year guarantees and coordinated appliance work can be worth paying for, but promotional conditions and model variations make headline comparisons unreliable. Match the code, test the postcode and calculate the installed total.

Recycling is offered for eligible appliances, sometimes as a paid service and sometimes within a promotion. Check whether disconnection is required.
Does John Lewis wall-mount TVs?
Wall-mounting is available for eligible TVs and locations. Confirm wall suitability, bracket, cable work and supplier-direct arrangements.
Is a five-year guarantee a reason to pay more?
It can justify a modest difference if the cover and claim route are useful, but it cannot rescue an unsuitable or substantially overpriced product.
