Argos Mobile Phones Review: SIM-Free Choice, Delivery and Returns
Argos combines a large SIM-free range with local collection and fast delivery. We examine the useful parts, the conditions behind Argos Plus and what to check before opening a new phone.
Argos is strongest when speed and local collection matter.
The range is broad, the postcode-led stock checker is practical and Click & Collect can remove delivery uncertainty. It is not automatically the cheapest place for every phone. Compare the exact storage, colour, warranty, trade-in value and checkout total against the manufacturer and at least one competing retailer.
Argos listed more than 300 SIM-free phones when we checked, spanning inexpensive Android models, Google Pixel, Samsung Galaxy, Nothing, Motorola, Xiaomi and Apple. That breadth makes it a useful first place to see the UK market, but a long product grid is not a recommendation. The better question is whether Argos has the right exact model at a competitive total price with collection or delivery that fits your deadline.
What Argos sells in mobile phones
The main mobile area covers SIM-free handsets, pay-as-you-go phones, smartwatches, cases, screen protectors, chargers, power banks, trackers and SIM cards. SIM-free is the important category for buyers who already have a suitable airtime plan or want to choose their network separately.
A SIM-free listing does not guarantee compatibility with every service or feature. Check the supported mobile bands, whether the device accepts a physical SIM, eSIM or both, and whether features such as Wi-Fi calling are supported by your intended network. A phone sold without a contract can still be financed through a retailer credit product, but the cost and risks of credit are separate from the phone’s value.
